Sabotin is an exceptional mountain, rich in natural, historical, and cultural heritage sites. Listen to the mountain, and it will tell you its pleasant, romantic, windy, gloomy and, occasionally, bloody stories. For it is here, on the slopes of Sabotin, that soldiers from 22 nations took part in the battles along the Isonzo Front. The mountain was their ally, their friend and confidant, and, all too often, their last home. Sabotin is a Dinaric mountain and a contact zone for Alpine, Dinaric, and Mediterranean flora, all of which flourish in defiance of the severe winds and hellish heat. The horned viper sheds its skin on the mountain's slopes, and the majestic griffon vulture flies above them. The international border between Slovenia and Italy runs along Sabotin's ridge. With Slovenia's entry into the European Union, the border as a divisive line has finally been overcome. We wish to preserve Sabotin and give it the role of a Peace Park. A park connecting all 22 nationalities whose blood has been shed at this site. Sabotin shall become a symbol of peace, integration, and connection.
We invite you to explore Sabotin and its unique features, and to use the opportunity to reflect on peace within yourself and around you.
